TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER

New Application or Spare Part

  • Central unit of any precision sealing circuit, without needing a thermocouple, instantly measures and regulates voltage output to set and maintain the sealing temperature at its programmed value.

Designs available for cabinet or panel mounting, control and communication via network, analog signals, serial terminal or simple potentiometer and contacts.

CURRENT TRANSFORMER AND ACCESSORIES

PEX-W5 / PD-3 / LF-06480 / UML-1 / ATR-3 / T-408-1

  • The controller requires an instant reading of the current and voltage of the heating element, hence the need to incorporate the non-invasive PEX-W3 transformer into the sealing circuit. Additional accessories available include the PD-3 digital panel potentiometer, line filters to complement CE, UML braided measurement cable, and T-408-1 control terminal.

HEATING ELEMENT AND ROLL PROFILES

Reorder, New Application, Roll

  • The greatest advantage of impulse sealing is the ability to generate and transmit heat to the plastic and immediately withdraw it to set the seam. In this process, having the most suitable heating element for each application is crucial. The resistances are dimensioned in terms of profile, cross-section, length, heating area, cold zones, connectors, and in some applications, contours. The resistance can be manufactured at the source or destination using standard profiles for sealing, cutting, or combined functions, available in rolls for immediate delivery.

POWER TRANSFORMER

New application to size

  • Instant heating is achieved with a good amount of current at an equivalent voltage of 60 to 80 V/m. The transformer's sealing circuit is sized based on the available voltage and the resistive load presented by the heating element.

SEALING BARS

Resistron Bar, Cirus Seal, Hard Insulator, Shock Silicone, PTFE Fabric

  • Sealing bars press the film to transfer heat and allow cooling. Generally made of aluminum, the bars are specified by their section, length, resistances, water channel, and mounting drilling. The counter bar is usually for shock silicone but can also be heated. Available for both Resistron and Cirus sealing.

CASE STUDY

A high-barrier vacuum bag manufacturer acquired a double-lane bagging machine from distant China. The machine featured impulse sealing but only had basic time control, heating on both sides of the bag along the 146cm bars.

The machine required constant heat adjustments due to a lack of temperature measurement and cooling. About 10% of the bags produced needed rework.

THE CHALLENGE

Sealing Bar: A new bar was incorporated to apply heat only to the upper surface, limiting heating zones to the spool areas. Cooling by water was enabled for continuous operation.

Control: Space constraints and lack of access to the machine's software led to the integration of an independent cabinet with the RES440L cycle temperature controller, current transformer, and a new power transformer, synchronized with a non-invasive jaw closure sensor.

With everything prepared, the installation was completed in one day, achieving the desired results.

THE SOLUTION

  • The machine speed increased from 50 to 60 cycles per minute.

  • Defective bags decreased from 10% to 0.3%.

  • The need for constant temperature adjustments was eliminated.

  • A standardized set of high-durability spare parts with Waldo was established.
